Vehicle Frame Position Detection by CSI Technical Group | Wednesday, May 15, 2013 | 0 comment(s) We were recently presented with the task of detecting a vehicle frame when it moved into position. The customer needed to make sure that the frames next in line stopped to avoid collisions and possible injury to workers. The application required that the frame be viewed from the top at a distance of about 6 meters. We chose to use a SICK INSPECTOR PI50 to detect when the frame is in position, thereby sending an output signal to stop the line. We could use the blob tool or pixel counter to find the frame and ignore the floor by adjusting the black/ white scale. We then adjusted the number of pixels needed to give a good read to allow for stop time of the line once the sensor is triggered. By using the INSPECTOR PI50 it allowed us to get away from a more elaborate 4 sensor distance measurement set up.
